Catchy blog taglines are so called because they have the true potential to drive visitors to your blog. It also reflects your personality and goals.
In this post, I will present you some tips for setting great taglines, along with some great examples of taglines from blogs all over the web.
Let’s get started.
Blog name matters. But not that much. All the so-called popular domains are already taken. So now, content and tagline are the kings. Tagline acts as a substitute for the blog title when
Blog taglines help determine niche of the blog
For big brands like HuffingtonPost, the blog tagline does not really matter. In fact, some some big blogs do not have any taglines at all. But for the new thriving blog, having a good tagline is very essential.
Blog taglines in some cases help visitors to determine the niche of the blog.
One of the perfect examples for this is Dumb Little Man, one of the most popular self-development blog. What’s the relationship between this title and self-development niche? God only knows.
However, certainly, it’s a word of mouth, catchy and easy to remember. The tagline of the blog is “Tips for Life”, simple, to-the-point and clear.
One can not determine the niche of the blog by simply looking at Dumb Little Man. But one can easily determine by looking at its tagline “Tips for Life”.
This is the perfect example of how effective a tagline is. This tagline may not sound effective for you, but it’s definitely effective for readers in that niche, including me.
- Boing Boing: A directory of wonderful things
- Slashdot: News for nerds, stuff that matters
What’s the meaning of Boing Boing in English? Huh? Tagline and content made site special. So as Slashdot.
By looking at the blog taglines, your visitors should easily determine what you have in store for them. There should be a clear purpose for them to visit your blog. When users land on your homepage craving for content, your blog tagline reassures your readers that they are in the right place.
This is especially very important when your blog name is brandable and has nothing to do with the content you deliver.
Some blog tagline writing tips:
- Include the verbs in your blog taglines
- Always use active voice over the passive one
- Use power words like epic, mastering, expert, etc.
- Keep the title tag along with the tagline below for Google to show the blog tagline fully in SERPs
- Make it
attention grabbing

Present the benefits and USP
Tagline goes bit beyond the blog name.
In most of the case, by just looking at the name of the blog you can determine the niche of the blog. But tagline is very essential to show your readers what you’ve really got in for your readers.
If you are struggling hard to get an idea of what to include in your blog tagline, think of all the benefits your readers going to get by following your blog.
What’s that one thing that sets you apart from the competition. If you have a clear USP when it comes to your content, produce or service mention it in the tagline. It’s the perfect place.
Choose blog taglines that reflect your and your blog’s personality
The perfect example for this is
Apple’s tagline: Think Different.
Although Apple is not a blog, it makes sense to include this in this post. The Apple’s tagline reflects Steve Jobs’ personality, Apple’s motto.
Apple always introduces new concepts to the world. Apple’s tagline is also an inspiration for many young entrepreneurs. It tells anyone can succeed by thinking in a different and creative way.
Blog tagline bait
New term? I’ve heard of link baiting, what is this crap? You may think. The meaning of bait is trap, to attract. So now, you got the meaning of this new term. Attracting visitors to enter your blog by using effective blog taglines.
The perfect example for this is,
- Steve Pavlina’s blog, which has the tagline “Personal Development for Smart People”
How catchy is that! His personal development tips are only for smart people. He is asking you “Aren’t you a smart one to enter my blog?”.
Some other tagline examples would be “Marketing tips for action-takers”, “Productivity tips for Mac power-users” and so on.
Blog taglines that reflect your content’s speciality
Are you presenting the information in a unique way? Then this blog taglines strategy is definitely for you.
- Illuminated Mind blog’s (now Paid to exist) tagline was “The less boring side of personal development”.
This tagline both tells you the niche of the blog and the nature of their content. People consider many of the personal development blogs as boring; they want to read something more appealing and dynamic.
The above tagline convinces people that the self-development tips in this blog are not boring and are unique. Sprinkling the nature of content on your blog makes a great difference.
Ask yourself, “What’s the USP of my content?”. Include the USP in your tagline. With this, your tagline will be unique!
Author tagline
Who is behind the blog? Then why not set a blog tagline to something like – “A blog by [Your name]”? Sounds simple. It showcases your self-confidence and personality.
Great example for this is QuickSprout blog (Not QuickSprout- I’m Kind of a big deal).
- The tagline of QuickSprout blog is “Blog by Neil Patel”, it’s his blog, and he is the king.
He is already a reputed author. His name in blog tagline acts as blog tagline bait. It reflects his personality, self-confidence, and his responsibility.
This type of blog taglines is effective once you standout as a reputed author or person. I don’t really recommend it for beginners. If you are new to the blogosphere and include the tagline like “Blog by Briefcase Joe”, people would think who the heck is “Briefcase Joe”.
Killer tip: Include words like YOU, I, WE, YOUR in your taglines. It greatly increases engagement. It is like causing emotional intrigue for your readers. You seem more close to them, which is particularly important in blogging.
Tagline examples
The most of the taglines I’ve provided here are already used my various blogs, also some of them I brainstormed by getting some inspiration.
