Also, Adobe officially completed its acquisition of Semrush on April 28, 2026.

For current Semrush customers and trial users, Semrush says there are no immediate changes to product access, features, interface, support, billing, or existing agreements.

So, the free trial process remains essentially the same for now.

Which Semrush free trial should you try and why?

As of mid-2026, Semrush offers two parallel pricing plans: the new Semrush One (SEO + AI visibility) and the legacy SEO Classic (SEO only) path.

Semrush One pricing now offers these plans: Starter, Pro+, and Advanced.

Why Semrush?

Semrush is one of the most complete digital marketing platforms available today. I’ve used it for years, especially for competitor SEO research, keyword analysis, and content planning. And if you’re serious about growing organic traffic, it is hard to ignore how much data Semrush brings into one place.

Semrush features

The platform also offers the world’s largest keyword database compared to Semrush alternatives such as Ahrefs, Moz, and SurferSEO. We’re talking over 28.4 billion keywords indexed and 142 GEO databases. And, from my experience, Semrush also tends to be pretty accurate. See my detailed test of how accurate Semrush is here.

As of May 2026, Semrush has over 10 million users and serves over 117,000 paying customers. More users means a higher number to contribute to further tool development, a global support network, hacks, and much more.

And they’re also launching new tools weekly to help users keep a good pace with AI visibility growth.

How to activate the free trial for Semrush step-by-step

Semrush now has several pricing plans, and that can get confusing fast. To prevent that, here’s our quick guide to activating your Semrush free trial in just three easy steps.

  • Step 1: To activate the special 14-day free trial as a BloggingX reader, head over to this page. You will see a page like this:

  • Step 2: Quickly register your free account. On the next page, you’ll see the 14 days during which your Semrush trial will be active.
  • Step 3: Enter your credit card details, click subscribe, and the free trial will be activated on your account.

How to cancel your Semrush trial account?

You won’t pay anything during the two-week unlimited free trial, so you can test Semrush One properly before deciding whether to keep it. And if your subscription renews by mistake, Semrush says you can still request a refund within 7 days of renewal when you have an annual plan.

Still, don’t wait until day 13 to act. Instead, set a reminder, make the most of the trial, and cancel early if you find that it’s not the right fit.

That gives you the advantage of trying Semrush without taking on unnecessary risk.

There are two options to cancel your subscription:

  1. Follow the cancellation link. Log in to your account and issue a cancellation request.
  2. Or, contact the Semrush support team from the same email ID that you used to sign up.

In that email, provide them with details such as your billing amount, date of your last payment, and last four digits of your credit card. This will help them to identify and cancel your subscription as quickly as possible.

When you cancel, your account switches back to the free version, and Semrush safeguards all your project data for 30 days in case you decide to come back.

What Semrush features to expect in the free trials

Here are the top Semrush features you can actually use during the trial (the same ones I’ve used to grow BloggingX into a six-figure-revenue site over the years.

  • Keyword research: Semrush’s Keyword Magic Tool helps you discover keyword ideas, analyze search volume, understand keyword difficulty, and identify search intent. Great for planning blog content, product pages, comparison posts, or full topic clusters.
  • Competitor analysis: This helps you see which keywords your competitors rank for, where their traffic comes from, which pages perform best, and which sites link to them. This can help you reverse-engineer what is already working in your niche instead of guessing from scratch.
  • Rank tracking: This means you can track your keyword rankings across different devices and locations, and then monitor how your positions change over time. This is especially handy when you publish new content, refresh old posts, or run SEO campaigns for clients.
  • Site audits and on-page SEO: You’ll be able to scan your website for technical SEO issues such as broken links, crawlability problems, missing metadata, duplicate content, slow-loading pages, and other issues that may affect rankings. Check out my detailed guide on the Semrush website audit tool for a deeper walkthrough.
  • Backlink analytics: Semrush helps you analyze your backlink profile, find link-building opportunities, compare your backlinks with competitors, and identify potentially harmful links. This can help you improve your site’s authority and protect your domain from low-quality backlink risks.
  • Content marketing tools: Expect tools for topic research, SEO content briefs, writing optimization, and content performance analysis.
  • AI-powered content creation: You’ll get AI-assisted content tools, such as ContentShake AI (content ideation, drafting, optimization, and publishing workflows). It also offers WordPress integration, SEO suggestions, and readability guidance, all useful for bloggers and small content teams wanting to speed up and scale production without ignoring SEO basics.
  • Local SEO: For local businesses, Semrush can help with local rank tracking, listings management, Google Business Profile (GMB) optimization, and local visibility insights. This helps when you want to show up in location-based searches and manage your local online presence more consistently.
  • Social media management: Semrush also includes tools for scheduling posts, tracking social media performance, and monitoring competitors’ social activity. It may not replace a dedicated social media platform for every team, but useful nonetheless.
  • Brand monitoring: This helps you monitor your reputation online from mentions, spot PR opportunities, and understand how people are talking about your brand across the web.

One thing I like about Semrush is that it keeps expanding beyond traditional SEO. Today, it feels less like a single SEO tool and more like a digital marketing operating system.

You also get access to additional Semrush apps and add-ons through its app ecosystem. These can extend the platform into areas such as content creation, competitive intelligence, local marketing, analytics, and AI-powered workflows.

That said, not every add-on is included in your base subscription. So, before upgrading after your free trial, check which features are included in your selected plan and which ones cost extra.

Semrush Pros and Cons

👍 Pros

  • Extensive keyword database: 20+ billion keywords for comprehensive trend analysis and real-time SEO insights across industries
  • Comprehensive backlink data: 43 trillion backlinks indexed with quality metrics for effective authority building
  • Local SEO: 142 geodatabases enabling precise regional targeting and local market optimization
  • Content marketing: AI-powered tools, including ChatGPT integration for streamlined content creation and optimization
  • Good all-in-one value: While Semrush is not cheap, it can replace several separate tools if you use its SEO, content, backlink, competitor research, and reporting features thoroughly.

👎 Cons

  • Can feel overwhelming at first: Semrush has a lot of tools, reports, and dashboards. That means beginners may need some time to understand where everything is.
  • The free plan is very limited: Semrush does offer limited free access, but it is not enough for serious SEO work. The free trial is a better way to test the platform properly.
  • Mostly Google-focused search data: Semrush is strongest for Google SEO data. If your strategy depends heavily on other search engines, you may need to factor that in.
  • Some advanced features cost extra: Certain add-ons and premium apps are not included in the base plan, so costs can increase depending on what you need.

Latest Semrush updates

Semrush is evolving quickly, and that is good news if you want a marketing platform that keeps up with how search is changing.

Semrush product updates

Although there are dozens of updates, here are the key ones you may find helpful:

  • Semrush Copilot: Think of this as your built-in AI SEO assistant. It analyzes your Semrush data, flags priority issues, spots new opportunities, and helps you decide what to fix next. And yes, right from your dashboard.
  • ContentShake AI: This AI content tool turns your topic ideas into SEO-ready drafts. Good for ideation, writing, optimization, and publishing.
  • Semrush App Center: This is a marketplace of Semrush apps and third-party tools that help you extend the platform beyond core SEO (analytics, local marketing, etc).
  • AI-driven keyword research: This helps you go beyond basic keyword volume and difficulty. It can show personalized keyword difficulty, topical authority signals, and intent-based insights to help you choose keywords you actually have a realistic chance of ranking for.
  • AI Toolkit: This set of tools helps you understand how visible your brand is across AI search platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity.
  • AI Content Detector: Helps you review whether your content sounds natural and human. I’d use this as a quality check, not as a final judge of whether a piece is genuinely helpful or publish-ready.
  • Exploding Topics: Helps you spot fast-growing topics before they become obvious to everyone else. So, it’s great for creating timely content while the opportunity is still fresh and low-competition.

Keep checking to see that you don’t miss any important updates for your needs.

  7. Which trial is better: Semrush One Starter, Pro, or Guru? The best Semrush trial depends on what you want to test. Choose Starter if you want the lowest-cost way to try Semrush One. Choose Pro if you want a stronger balance of SEO, competitor research, and AI visibility tools. Choose Guru if you manage larger content campaigns, multiple projects, or client SEO work.
  8. Is Semrush One worth trying? Yes, especially if you want to test Semrush for both traditional SEO and newer AI search visibility workflows.
  9. Is Semrush better than Ahrefs? It depends on your workflow. Ahrefs is excellent for backlink analysis and SEO research, while Semrush offers a broader digital marketing suite that includes SEO, content marketing, PPC, local SEO, social media, competitive research, and AI visibility tools. That said, beginners can still get value quickly by starting with a few core tools: Keyword Magic Tool, Site Audit, Domain Overview, Position Tracking, and On-Page SEO Checker.
  11. Does Adobe’s acquisition change Semrush pricing or trial access? No, not at the moment. Semrush remains a separate product with its own plans, tools, accounts, and subscriptions.
  12. Can I get access to Semrush as part of the Adobe Suite after the acquisition? No. Semrush is not currently bundled into Adobe Creative Cloud or Adobe’s wider software suite. It remains a standalone product with separate subscription plans.
