In this blog post, we’ll explore two ways to track your time in Notion.

First, we’ll show you how to build a simple Time Tracker using Notion.

Second, we’ll introduce you to third-party tools like Clockify, Everhour, and Tmetric that you can integrate with Notion to track your time.

How to Time Track in Notion Manually?

You can easily track your time inside Notion by building a Simple Time Tracker manually. Here’s how to build one :

  • Create a New Page on your Notion Workspace and add an Inline or Full Page Database to it. [Type /d and select “Database” from the dropdown]
  • Name your Database and add 2 more Property columns alongside the default “Name” column. The other two columns go as follows :
    1. Tracker [date] – Add a start date, end date, and time
    2. Minutes [formula] – Use this column to track how long you take for each task. Add the formula below to calculate minutes automatically from the Tracker column.

Formula : dateBetween(end(prop("Tracker")), start(prop("Tracker")), "minutes")

Rename the “Name” column as “Tasks” and add Tasks you’d like to track.

Here’s an example of how the Time Tracker looks with some sample data. The formula property in the third column calculates the minutes you took a complete a specific Task.

To calculate the total minutes spent on all the tasks collectively, click Calculate at the bottom of the “Minutes” column.

Time Tracking Softwares that Play Well with Notion

1. Clockify

To make things simpler, you can track time inside Notion by using Clockify – a time tracking tool that lets you track your tasks inside Notion and integrates with tools like Asana, Evernote, Google Calendar, and many others.

In fact, Clockify is the second best time tracker after Toggl, as you basically just need to download the browser extension and start tracking time without any other hassle.

Step 1: Sign up

Step 2: Install the Extension

Download its Browser Extension. You’ll be given three browser extensions to choose from Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Pick the one for your Browser.

Step 3: Using Clockify

Once you’ve downloaded the Browser Extension, you’ll be able to access the Clockify Tool on all your Notion Pages by clicking its Toggle on the Top Right area beside the “Share” button on your Notion Page.


You can customize the Clockify timer by adding a Project Name and Tags and by toggling it “Start” or “Stop” from the button itself. The Timer automatically tracks your Notion Task and takes away most of your manual workload.

If you’re someone who’s handling multiple tasks single-handedly or working on multiple client projects under a deadline, Clockify will make it seamless for you to finish them under your scheduled time.

Step 4: Reports and Stats

Once you’ve tracked a couple of tasks using Clockify, you can check your reports inside Clockify’s dashboard by visiting here: . You can choose between a summary, a detailed one, or a weekly report.

The best part? You can save your reports as shareable links and embed them back inside Notion to use them for your client portal and keep clients updated on how long you’ve worked on each project.

2. Everhour

Primarily for teams, Everhour is both a project management tool and a time tracker, perfect for handling clients’ projects that are time-bound and helping manage invoices by sharing real-time reports with clients.

Additionally, Everhour makes your experience worthwhile by letting you manage budgets, manage team workflows and create invoices for clients.

To track time inside Notion, follow these steps :

Step 1: Sign Up with an Everhour Account

Step 2: Download its Browser Extension and let Everhour integrate automatically with Notion. It will sync with all your selected Notion Pages.

Step 3: You can use Everhour’s timer inside Notion (web version) at the top of the page and schedule your tasks accordingly.

Step 4: Track Reports with Notion by heading over to your Everhour dashboard. Access the Notion Time Tracker Report Builder and select any column to display your report.

3. Tmetric

Similar to Everhour, Tmetric is a powerful Time Tracker which helps manage tasks, budgets, and projects, effortlessly. It seamlessly integrates with Notion with the help of its Browser Extension and is best used for team-based workflows.

To track your tasks and workflows inside Tmetric, follow these steps :

  • Step 1: Sign up for Tmetric and Download its Browser Extension
  • Step 2: Login to your Notion Workspace and you’ll notice Tmetric’s timer at the top of the page

Ultimately, if you’re interested in tracking tasks and activities just for yourself in Notion, Clockify’s the best option for you. Otherwise, if you’re handling a team or multiple client projects, budgets, and invoicing, it’s best you go for Everhour or Tmetric.
