Do you know how to add a Divider in Notion? The horizontal separation line between blocks?
I’m pretty sure you can do that.
But can you add a Vertical divider in Notion?
Of course, you can add as many columns as you want.
But what if you want to add a visible line between columns?
Well, that’s a trick very few people know about.
In this post, I am going to show you a simple way to add vertical dividers in Notion.
So, open your Notion workspace and follow along with this simple guide:
Adding a vertical divider in Notion:
You’ve already used the Quote block, right?
We’re going to use this to make a vertical divider.
First, you need to create a Quote block. Simply type “/quote” and press Enter to do that.
Then, click and drag the Quote block to the left or right side of any block. (Place it where you want to make the divider)
Now you can type anything you want in this Quote block. Press Shift+Enter to go to the next line without leaving the block.
You can also change the Quote size to your preference.
That’s it. Now you can add a vertical divider in Notion.
Hold on!
Before you go, let me show you another way. (Pro Tip!)
What if you want to add a vertical divider between two tables or any other blocks?
Within the Quote block, you can only write texts. You can’t add bullet points, checkboxes, tables, lists, galleries, or anything.
Then, how are you going to add a divider between those blocks?
There is a simple workaround to it.
Like I already showed, you need to create a Quote block and place it besides another block. Hold Shift and press Enter several times to make the divider longer.
Now, instead of typing something in the quote block, you will grab another block and place it beside the
Quote block
.
This way, you are going to have three columns, right?
All you have to do now is to adjust the size of the middle column (Quote Block) and make it narrower.
You may need to resize the left or right column to keep the Quote block in the center of the page.
This simple trick allows you to add any blocks on either side of the divider.
Conclusion
Other than these two ways, there is no native way to add vertical dividers in Notion.
But which one should you use?
It totally depends on what you’re going to do with it.
If you just need to add some text, then go with the first way. (create a Quote Block and add text inside it)
But, if you need to add tables or other blocks, you should go for the second way. (create 3 columns and put the quote block in the middle column)
Now you too know the secret, right?
Let me know what you think about it.
