Have you ever tried to put two tables side by side in Notion? And, wonder why you can’t do that?

Maybe you’re trying to make two columns inside another column.

But, you end up with only one.

Or, you just want to add multiple columns inside a toggle menu. Do you know how to do that?

If you’re curious to know about these Notion hacks, you’ve come to the right place.

Because in this post, I am going to share with you all the column hacks that you can do in Notion.

So, without any delay, start digging into each hack.

Two Columns side by side

Need to make a column and put two blocks side by side? It’s super easy.

Just grab one block and drag it to the side of another one (left or right). Now you will see a blue line on the side.

When you see that, let go of the block and you’ll create a column.

It’s easy, right?

Placing tables side by side

Putting two blocks of text side by side is easy. But can you do the same with tables?

Notion doesn’t allow you to do that directly.

But, you can do that too with a simple little trick.

At first, you need to create two columns side by side (either with text blocks or empty ones).

Then you can grab one table and place it inside any column. This way, you can place two tables side by side.

This trick applies to other databases too (Gallery, List, Calendar, etc.).

Creating Nested Columns

What if you need to create columns inside another column?

The thing is, whenever you try to do that, you will end up creating 3 columns.

But, there is a workaround to it. It involves some extra steps but it’s not complicated.

Let me show you.

First, create a page ( /page will do that). Then grab the content or blocks you want to nest and put them into that page.

Now go inside the page and format the texts or columns any way you like. You can create as many columns as you like.

Then, go back to the previous page. Move that new page into the column where you want to nest your content.

Now, click the 6 dots, go to Turn into, and select Text, any Heading, or even a number/bullet list.

And that’s it. If you want you can delete the title/heading.

This is how you can have multiple columns nested under another column.

It’s super cool, isn’t it?

Columns inside a toggle

You may be using toggle blocks for a cleaner workspace.

But what if you need to create two columns side by side inside a toggle menu?

Just like you did on #3, you can also create multiple columns inside a toggle block.

  1. First, create a toggle where you want to make columns. Now go inside the toggle and create a new page.
  2. On that page, create and format the columns any way you like. After you’re done with formatting, go back to the previous page.
  3. Now, all you have to do is turn that page into any other blocks and you are all set up.

This way, you can create columns inside a toggle block.

Columns are great for organizing content. But in Notion, you need to know some tricks to get the most out of it.

Do you need to place multiple tables or databases side by side? Just create the columns first and then place the tables inside those columns.

Need to have a nested column? Create a page in a column, create columns inside that page, come back, and turn that page into any other blocks (a text block in most cases).

The same goes for creating columns inside a toggle. Create a page inside a toggle, create columns on that page, and turn that into a text or any other block.

That’s it.

Now you know everything you need to know about creating columns in Notion.
