In this blog post, I’ll be presenting you a Black Friday deal on Camtasia and help you save good money.
Camtasia is the most popular product by TechSmith who are behind some really good products like Snagit, Jing, Audiate, etc.
It is a perfect software for people who want software for mainly screen recording and video editing. It’s perfect for course creators and also YouTube video creators to create professional videos without the steep learning curve of tools like Premiere Pro or Da Vinci Resolve.

My mini-review on Camtasia

It’s really easy and quick to learn Camtasia so that rather than worrying about technicalities you can focus on creative editing and getting your message out.
For some video creation projects, the pro softwares like Premiere Pro seems overkill. In those cases, Camtasia seems to be the perfect fit.
Earlier Camtasia used to have limited features on Mac. But in their later versions, Camtasia easily beats ScreenFlow (Mac-only software) when it comes to features and also cross-device functionalities.

It’s surprising to see there’s no real competitor to Camtasia since ages. It is by far the most used and preferred software available for screencasting and video editing.
Features that I really like:
- The tool is really easy to use with intuitive UI/UX
- Ability to save and reuse the nested clips in the library
- Masks (ability to create a circular webcam overlay on top of the screencast)
- Superior screencasting features like cursor highlight, Zoom, voiceover, click visualizer, sound effects, etc.
- Comes with well thought out behaviors, animations, and effects.
- Comes with a “remove color” feature that helps you do greenscreen videos with ease.
- You can share the videos directly to Google Drive, YouTube, Vimeo, etc.
- It also gives you access to the TechSmith Assets for Camtasia with hundreds of premade templates, music, sound effects, and footages.
- Ability to create SCORM courses with quizzes and surveys for better student engagement. You can upload these files along with your training resources directly to platforms like Canvas LMS, Moodle, LearnWorlds, and others.
- Really good video compression rates compared to what Premiere Pro or other tools deliver. You don’t need to make use of Handbrake!
The three things that I badly want from Camtasia are the JKL feature for quickly reviewing the video editing work, superior color-correcting feature, and also utilization of GPU for rendering.
Other than these features, I really like Camtasia. Earlier I used to be hesitant investing in Camtasia due to lack of cross-platform compatibility, but not now.
Pros and cons of Camtasia
Pros 👍
- Easy to learn
- Comes with a screen capture feature
- Good cursor effects
- Offers interactivity options
Cons 👎
- Limited customization
- Can be buggy at times.
